Course Description

This training is designed to address the shortage of experienced Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLA) within the Microbiology department nationwide. The course is specifically designed for those without university qualification or non-science graduates who wishes to pursue a career in microbiology laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). You will be fully trained in our modern diagnostic-settings microbiology laboratory on the relevant skills that is required by most employers within the microbiology department.

This course will equip you with transferable skills and a wide range of knowledge of microbiological techniques required for MLA roles. The course is also opened to international applicants who wish to acquire MLA skills. This accredited training will offer you the opportunity to apply for job in the NHS or private laboratories in the UK or abroad. The intensive practical will broaden your experience and increase your chances of securing a job.

Certification: Level 3 TQUK Qualification

Competencies will be acquired on the following techniques during your practical sessions:

  • Health and Safety at workplace

  • Specimen reception

  • Specimen culture

  • Basic diagnostic identification techniques

  • Following complex diagnostic SOPs

  • Diagnostic Report Interpretation techniques

  • Staining

  • Microscopy

  • LIMS

  • The duration of this training is 8 weeks.
